Vocabulary


  1. onto: (preposition): to a position that is ON (something, such as a surface, area, or object) 
    • Example 1: We climbed onto the house's roof to repair the leak
    • Example 2: The beer spilled onto the floor when I dropped my beer glass
  2. scribbling: (it can be either a noun or a verb in present continuous tense.  The article used it in the present continuous from). To draw lines, shapes, etc., that have no particular meaning in a quick and careless way OR to write (something) quickly and in a way that makes it difficult to read 
    • Example 1: the students scribbled as the professor gives his lecture
    • Example 2: Her handwriting is terrible.  It's a bunch of ugly scribblings
  3. gathering: (noun)the process or act of putting things or people together
    • Example 1: AS A VERB. Gather your books and let's go to my house to study
    • Example 2: I see my uncle only when we have family gatherings during Christmas time
  4. genuinely: (adverb): sincerly and honestly
    • Example 1: He was genuinely concerned about my heath
    • Example 2: AS AN ADJECTIVE.  He is a very genuine person
  5.  nerve -wracking: (adjective) causing a person to feel very nervous.
    • Example: Passing the BAC is a nerve wracking experience for teenagers in France
  6. dull: (adjective) boring. Not exciting or interesting OR having a point or edge that is not sharp
    • Example 1: The students felt that the class was very dull today
    • Example 2: We can not cut the meat with these knives as their blades are very dull (not sharp)
  1. Tedious: (adjective) Too long or too slow...boing.  
    • This was a very tedious homework assignment
  2. Fellow: (noun) a male person (boy or a man) OR someone with an interest in common
    • Example 1: She found herself a new fellow
    • Example 2: Her fellows engineers are greatful for her contribution to the Technology Journal this month
  1. Knit: (verb): to make (a piece of clothing) from yarn or thread by using long needles or a special machine
    • Example: She knitted a new sweater for her son
  1. To cope: (verb) to deal with a problem and try to come up with solutions
    • Example: We are not copping very well with the death of our family dog last week
  1. Mind numbing (adjective) tedium (noun): very boring (it is so boring that it puts your mind to sleep)
    • The last movie from Tarantino turned out to be a mind numbing tedium
